What Are the Technical Characteristics of Extruded Aluminum Finned Tubes and Their Maintenance Methods

Extruded Aluminum Finned Tubes
Design & Performance

Extruded aluminum finned tubes are designed in the form of an aluminum sleeve fitted over a base tube. The base tube can be manufactured from carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, and other materials. After mechanical extrusion, the fins are formed. The fin root tightly adheres to the outer wall of the tube, ensuring a high heat transfer coefficient and excellent heat transfer performance. It resists deformation under long-term hot and cold working conditions, providing a long service life.

Maintenance Guidelines

To extend the service life of the finned tubes, it is essential to regularly inspect whether all finned tubes are intact and whether there are scale attachments such as deposits, coking, and fouling, which must be cleaned immediately. Meanwhile, it is also necessary to check whether the adhesion between each finned tube and the rubber gasket is precise, and whether the rubber gasket itself is intact, so as to avoid fluid leakage caused by gasket ungluing and damage.

Each instrument adjustment must be operated by a designated person, and the operation and maintenance must strictly follow the operating procedures. Every time the finned tubes are re-tightened, the calibrated position of the compression must be recorded. The rubber gasket must not be over-tightened, as this will reduce the service life of the rubber ring.

When replacing the rubber gaskets of the finned tubes, this entire section needs to be completely renewed to avoid uneven gaps between each plate, which would affect the heat transfer results. In short, attention must be paid to the maintenance of specialized finned tubes for gas stoves during use to reduce the occurrence of early failures, extend the service life, improve operational efficiency, and bring more economic benefits.

Types & Operation

As a heat exchange element, the finned tube works in high-temperature flue gas for a long term. Finned tubes are classified into:

  • Integral finned tubes
  • Welded finned tubes
  • High-frequency welded finned tubes
  • Mechanically connected finned tubes

The tightening nuts and upper/lower guide bars of the plate heat exchanger should be frequently lubricated with grease.
